Pakistan left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir has been left out of the squad for the upcoming three-match Twenty20 series against Australia.

Amir’s form with the ball has been a major concern this year as he has gone wicketless in his last five ODIs, and only taken three wickets in the format since the Champions Trophy final in June last year.

Amir was also axed from the Test squad for the ongoing two-Test series against Australia.

With the 26-year-old being overlooked again, uncapped left-arm pace bowler Waqas Maqsood has been called up as his replacement.

Maqsood’s call-up comes after he enjoyed a lot of success while playing for Pakistan A in their three-match Twenty20 series against New Zealand A, as he was the second-highest wicket-taker with five wickets at an average of 8.80.

In regards to his Twenty20 career, the 30-year-old has claimed 20 wickets in 19 matches at an average of 23.20.

Earlier this year, Maqsood starred in the Pakistan Cup, which is a domestic 50-over competition, as he finished atop the wicket-takers list with 14 victims at an average of 15.07.

Meanwhile, spinner Imad Wasim is back in the side after missing the Asia Cup due to his substandard fitness levels.

Wasim took Mohammad Nawaz’s spot in the side, while batsman Babar Azam also returned and will replace Haris Sohail.

The Twenty20 series between Pakistan and Australia begins on October 24 in Abu Dhabi.

Pakistan’s T20 Squad: Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Hafeez, Sahibzada Farhan, Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik, Asif Ali, Hussain Talat, Sarfraz Ahmed (capt &wk), Shadab Khan, Shaheen Afridi, Usman Khan, Hasan Ali, Imad Wasim, Waqas Maqsood, Faheem Ashraf
