India wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha could potentially be sidelined for the historic Test match against Afghanistan due to a thumb injury.

Saha suffered the injury while representing the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the second qualifier against the Kolkata Knight Riders last Friday.

Saha will visit a specialist and have his injury examined by the BCCI’s medical team before a decision is taken on whether he will be available for the match against Afghanistan, who will be making their Test debut.

“To determine the future course of injury management, Mr Saha will see a specialist and the BCCI Medical Team will continue to monitor his progress,” a BCCI statement said.

Should Saha be ruled out of the Test match against Afghanistan, which begins on June 14 in Bangalore, it is likely that Dinesh Karthik or Parthiv Patel will take his place on the roster.
