Matt Renshaw will travel to South Africa right after the Sheffield Shield final

Australia have added opening batsman Matt Renshaw to their squad for the fourth Test against South Africa in Johannesburg.

Renshaw will immediately travel to South Africa after representing Queensland in the Sheffield Shield final against Tasmania.

Australia captain Steve Smith has been banned for the match after he and opening batsman Cameron Bancroft admitted that they tampered with the ball on the third day of the third Test in Cape Town.

It remains unclear whether Bancroft will feature in the fourth Test, but he was fined 75 percent of his match fee by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and handed three demerit points. Smith, meanwhile, was docked 100 percent of his match fee.

Renshaw was dropped at the beginning of the summer and Bancroft subsequently featured in the Ashes against England, which Australia won 4-0.

While Bancroft only averaged 25.57 with the bat during the Ashes, he has fared a little better in the ongoing Test series against the Proteas as he is Australia’s highest run-scorer with 223 runs, which includes two half-centuries, at an average of 37.16.

As for Renshaw, he overcame a slow start in the Sheffield Shield and has made scores of 56, 170, 112 and 143 not out since February.

With Renshaw having been called up, it is likely that he will play his first Test since September last year.

South Africa hold a 2-1 series lead going into the fourth and final Test, which begins on Friday.
