The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Dehradun will become Afghanistan’s second home ground in India.

Afghanistan’s first home ground was the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida, but it is likely that the stadium in Dehradun will host its first international series when Afghanistan take on Bangladesh in June.

“Dehradun will be our second home in India. We will, in all likelihood, play Bangladesh there. But it is not absolutely finalised,” Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) CEO Shafiq Stanikzai was quoted by Sportstar as saying.

Dheeraj Khare, District Cricket Association Dehradun’s vice-president, added: “There hasn’t been any official announcement on this yet, but it is true that Afghans will play games here.”

While the ground in Dehradun is expected to host the upcoming series against Bangladesh, Afghanistan will still continue to use the facilities in Greater Noida for the time being.

“The venue at Greater Noida will remain. As far as UAE is concerned, it is too early to comment on anything,” ACB chairman Atif Mashal said.
