Mohammed Shami was supposed to receive a Grade B contract

India pace bowler Mohammed Shami’s central contract has been withheld after his wife alleged that he assaulted her and had extramarital affairs with numerous women.
Shami was supposed to receive Grade B contract, which has a retainer of INR 3 crores, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have opted to wait until police proceedings come to an end.
Shami’s wife, Hasin Jahan, posted a series of screenshots on social media and even spoke to ABP News about what Shami and his family had allegedly done to her.
“Whatever I have posted is just the tip of the iceberg. Shami’s acts are far more heinous. I couldn’t finish reading his chats for an entire night. He has relationships with multiple women in India as well as abroad,” she said. “Shami abused me and started beating me after returning from South Africa. He has been doing this for quite some time now and now I have had enough.
“I tried to convince myself for the sake of my family and daughter but he kept on harassing me and when I found those obscene chats with multiple women, all hell broke [loose]. I cannot tolerate this anymore and I have decided to take legal action with all the available evidence.”
Jahan added that Shami’s mother and brother had tortured her and also planned to kill her.
“Everyone in their family used to torture me,” she said. “His mother and brother used to abuse me. The torture continued till 2-3 am in the morning. They even wanted to kill me.”
Jahan has since spoken to police about all the claims she made.
However, responding to the allegations, Shami took to Twitter to say that they were “absolutely false” and nothing more than a “conspiracy” to tarnish his name and reputation.
Speaking about the situation, Vinod Rai, chairman of the Committee of Administrators that supervises the BCCI’s proceedings, was quoted by ESPNcricinfo as saying: “We are in a bit of Catch 22. Ordinarily you would distinguish and say that [the allegation] is a personal issue and the contract is a professional issue. But someone could easily point out and say this allegation is an unsavoury one and you are still rewarding him [Shami].”
