South Africa pace bowler Morne Morkel has dismissed fresh speculation that he is considering signing a Kolpak deal.

Morkel’s comment come after the Mumbai Mirror quoted his father, Albert, as saying that the 33-year-old was leaning towards giving up his international career.

“I don’t know what to say, there is no reward for hard work and success here,” Albert Morkel had said. “Albie (his second son) is at the peak of his career.

“But he can’t be part of the South African Test or ODI side. They are telling him to play Twenty20 cricket. The South African team is looking for all-rounders but they won’t consider him.

“Albie played one Test and he had scored 58 and after that he never got to play for South Africa. The reservation system undermines merit.”

However, Morne Morkel, who has been linked with Kolpak deals in the past, insisted that he remains committed to representing South Africa.

“There are still a lot of goals I want to achieve with the Proteas,” he was quoted as saying by Sport24. “There is no truth to that.”
