Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal has confirmed that he will retire from all forms of cricket at the end of the National T20 Cup, which is Pakistan’s domestic Twenty20 competition and concludes on November 26.
In December 2014, Ajmal remodelled his bowling action after it was deemed illegal and returned to the national team the following year. However, his comeback was short-lived as he was unable to have the same kind of impact he once did.
As a result, he was dropped from the national team and has not represented Pakistan since April 2015.
“I am quitting all forms of cricket after the current National Twenty20 tournament,” Ajmal told AFP. “It was a highly satisfying career in which I achieved whatever goals I set for myself and helped the team win matches.”
The 40-year-old played in 35 Tests, where he took 178 wickets at an average of 28.10. He also featured in 113 ODIs and claimed 184 wickets at an average of 22.72. In regards to his Twenty20 International career, Ajmal represented Pakistan in 64 matches and picked up 85 wickets at an average of 17.83.
