Devendra Bishoo starred on the second day in Bulawayo as his five-wicket haul saw the West Indies launch a counter-attack and gain the upper hand over Zimbabwe.

Starting off the day on 19/0, Zimbabwe debutant Solomon Mire and Hamilton Masakadza ended up making a 44-run partnership before Mire was caught by Kraigg Brathwaite at deep midwicket off the bowling of Kemar Roach for 27.

Masakadza and Craig Ervine made up for the loss of Mire with a 47-run stand before Masakadza was caught behind off the bowling of Bishoo for 42.

Brendan Taylor, who recently ended his Kolpak deal with Nottinghamshire, failed to have an impact when he stepped out to the crease as he was sent packing by Bishoo for one run.

Sean Williams fared no better as he was caught behind off the bowling of Roach for seven runs.

With Zimbabwe at 110/4, they continued to falter as Sikandar Raza was caught by Shannon Gabriel off the bowling of Bishoo for six runs.

Ervine, who had done extremely well to survive up to this point, saw all his hard work go up in smoke when he was trapped lbw off the bowling of Bishoo for 39.

Things continued to go downhill for Zimbabwe as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals, which ultimately led to them being skittled out for 159 and giving the West Indies a 60-run lead.

Bishoo was the pick of the bowlers with five wickets, while Roach and West Indies captain Jason Holder snapped up two wickets apiece. Shannon Gabriel, meanwhile, chipped in with one.

With a 60-run lead in hand, the West Indies were dealt an early blow in their second innings as opener Kieran Powell was clean bowled by Zimbabwe skipper Graeme Cremer for 17.

Brathwaite and Kyle Hope ensured the West Indies finished on a high as they amassed an unbeaten 63-run partnership before stumps was called.

Brathwaite made 38 off 99 balls, which included a boundary and a six, while Hope remained undefeated on 32 off 65 deliveries, which included four boundaries.

Cremer was the only bowler to take a wicket.

The West Indies ended day two on 88/1 and will continue batting on Monday at 09:30 local time or 07:30 GMT.
