Mohammad Saifuddin could make his ODI debut next week after he was drafted into Bangladesh’s squad for the upcoming three-match series against South Africa.

Saifuddin has represented Bangladesh in two Twenty20 Internationals to date, both of which came against Sri Lanka in April.

Batsman Mominul Haque, all-rounder Nasir Hossain, who was overlooked for the Champions Trophy, and wicketkeeper-batman Liton Das, who last played ODI cricket in November 2015, were also included in the squad.

Mominul’s inclusion came three hours after the squad was announced, but the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) offered no explanation about the decision.

With the trio coming in, Mosaddek Hossain, Sunzamul Islam and Shafiul Islam have been dropped.

Mosaddek is currently recovering from an eye infection, while Sunzamul had a similar problem, but has started playing first-class cricket.

Shafiul was part of Bangladesh’s Champions Trophy squad, but he didn’t feature in a single game. As a result, his last ODI for Bangladesh came all the way back in October 2016.

The ODI series between South Africa and Bangladesh begins on October 15 in Kimberley.

Bangladesh’s ODI Squad: Mashrafe Mortaza (capt), Tamim Iqbal, Liton Das, Soumya Sarkar, Imrul Kayes, Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Sabbir Rahman, Nasir Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Rubel Hossain, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mominul Haque
