Bangladesh have been dealt a huge blow going into the second Test against South Africa in Bloemfontein as they will be without the services of opening batsman Tamim Iqbal.

Tamim aggravated a thigh injury he sustained in the warm-up game in Benoni and underwent scans, which revealed a grade 1 tear.

The 28-year-old, who made scores of 39 and 0 in the first Test in Potchefstroom, will need approximately four weeks to recover from his injury.

However, Bangladesh are hoping that he will be able to make his comeback during the ODI series against the Proteas, which begins on October 15 in Kimberley.

Tamim is the second high-profile player Bangladesh have lost as all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan opted to miss the Test series in order to get some much-needed rest.

This is the first time Bangladesh don’t have Tamim or Shakib in their Test side since they missed the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle in March 2013.

To make matters worse, Bangladesh are 1-0 down going into the second Test as they were crushed by 333 runs in Potchefstroom.
