“We are going to make a final decision about what happens for the next few years”

AB de Villiers has revealed that he will meet with Cricket South Africa in August to discuss about what his international future.

De Villiers insisted that the decision reached will be made with the “next few years” in mind.

“We will see what works for both parties,” the ODI skipper said. “We are not going to pick and choose games, but we are going to make a final decision about what happens for the next few years.”

De Villiers captained the Proteas in their three-match ODI series against England in May, which they lost 2-1, before leading them in the Champions Trophy, where they failed to make it past the group stage.

Most recently, he stood in for Faf du Plessis as skipper in three-match Twenty20 series against England, which his side lost 2-1.

With De Villiers having returned home since he opted to take a break from Test cricket for most of the year, he confirmed that he plans to spend time with his family and await the birth of his second child.

The 33-year-old is set to make his Test comeback against Bangladesh in September.

“I am going to spend a bit of time off at home with the family, I’m going to welcome my new youngster into the world, and obviously look to stay fit,” he said. “I want to make sure I am ready for September, when Bangladesh come.”

The Pretoria native also reiterated his desire to lead South Africa to World Cup glory in 2019, but he added that his dream will depend on the outcome of his meeting with Cricket South Africa.

“It’s my main dream to win a World Cup for South Africa, or to be part of it in one way or another… I don’t even think it’s in my hands, what is going to happen,” he said. “I will wait until the final decision on the coach and things like that are made. Then I can also have a chat to CSA, to see where I am going to fit in.”
