Sehwag currently works with the Kings XI Punjab

Former India opener Virender Sehwag has put his name forward for the India head coach position, which will become vacant after the Champions Trophy.

Even though current head coach Anil Kumble’s contract will be expiring at the end of the tournament later this month, he will still be reconsidered for the role again.

However, it seems that his chances of extending his tenure are slim at best as it has been reported that the national team are “intimidated” by his coaching style.

While Sehwag has no formal coaching experience, he did play international cricket for 14 years and currently holds a management position with Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, the Kings XI Punjab.

Apart from Sehwag, ex-Australia all-rounder Tom Moody, Richard Pybus, Dodda Ganesh and Lalchand Rajput have applied for the post.

Moody has coached Sri Lanka in the past and is currently the head coach of the Sunrisers Hyderabad. In addition to this, he has held management roles with Worcestershire and Big Bash League (BBL) franchise, the Melbourne Renegades.

Pybus has coached Pakistan on two occasions in the past, while Rajput currently coaches Afghanistan. As for Ganesh, he coached Goa for four years and is now a selector for Karnataka.

The three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), which consists of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, will have the final say on who becomes India’s next head coach.
