“I’ve loved my four years but if my four years are up so be it”

South Africa head coach Russell Domingo has reiterated that he is still unsure what the future holds for him.

Domingo will no longer be head coach after South Africa’s upcoming tour of England in May to July, but he has the opportunity to reapply for the job if he wants to.

However, it remains unclear whether the 42-year-old will do so.

“At the moment, I’m going fishing for a couple of weeks so it’s the last of my worries,” he said. “When I get back home I will select the squad for England, prepare the side well, we’ll play in England and then we’ll take it from there.”

While Domingo hinted that he would like to continue coaching the Proteas, he also insisted that he would accept Cricket South Africa’s decision if they were to replace him with a fresh face.

“I don’t know. Everybody wants to coach their national side,” he said. “It’s where you want to coach I suppose. I’ve loved my four years but if my four years are up so be it.”

Whoever is appointed head coach after the tour of England will hold the position until the end of the 2019 World Cup. But, Domingo made it clear that he isn’t looking that far ahead.

“I haven’t looked that far ahead to be honest,” he said. “I don’t know what the process is. I’m still waiting to find out what I need to do, or if I need to do anything, so once I’ve got bit of clarity on that I’ll make some decisions.”
