South Africa pace duo Kagiso Rabada and Vernon Philander took four wickets apiece to rip Sri Lanka apart on the second day of the second Test in Cape Town.

Starting off the day on 297/6, South Africa wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock and pace bowler Kyle Abbott only managed to add six runs to their 25-run partnership before Abbott was dismissed by Rangana Herath for 16.

De Kock, meanwhile, went on to make his hundred before falling not long after for 101, which came off 124 balls and included 11 boundaries.

Even though De Kock was gone, South Africa still continued to fight as Vernon Philander and Keshav Maharaj put together a handy 40-run partnership before Philander was sent packing by Lahiru Kumara.

South Africa ended up being bowled out for 392 when Rabada was caught behind off the bowling of Kumara for eight runs.

Kumara was easily the pick of the bowlers with six wickets, while Herath and Suranga Lakmal took two wickets apiece.

Trailing by 392 runs, Sri Lanka made a cautious start to their innings before opener Kaushal Silva was clean bowled by Kagiso Rabada for 11.

Kusal Mendis fell shortly after for 11 before Rabada struck twice in quick succession, removing Dimuth Karunaratne for 24 and captain Angelo Mathews for two.

Sri Lanka’s woes continued when Maharaj trapped Dhananjaya de Silva lbw for 16, while wicketkeeper Dinesh Chandimal became Rabada’s fourth victim after being caught behind for four runs.

With the tourists struggling on 78/6, things did not get any better for them as Philander ripped through the tail, taking out Herath, Lakmal, Kumara and Nuwan Pradeep in almost no time at all.

Rabada and Philander picked up four wickets apiece, while Maharaj snapped up two as Sri Lanka were skittled out for 110, which gave the Proteas a 282-run lead.
