The Perth Scorchers have brought in England and Yorkshire all-rounder Tim Bresnan as a replacement for his compatriot David Willey, who will be leaving to join the national team ahead of their limited overs tour of India.

Willey has enjoyed a lot of success in the Big Bash League (BBL) thus far as he is currently the Scorchers’ leading wicket-taker with six scalps next to his name at an average of 11.

Bresnan, meanwhile, has not played in the BBL since he represented the Hobart Hurricanes two years ago.

Upon being offered the opportunity to play for the Scorchers, Bresnan, who last represented England in May 2015, said: “It was an easy decision really. The past history of Big Bash they’ve always done well, so it’s a logical choice.

“When they said they wanted a replacement for Dave Willey I jumped at the chance. I’m looking forward to getting out there and playing some Big Bash cricket again. I really enjoyed it last time when I played with Hobart.”

Scorchers head coach Justin Langer added: “Tim is another very experienced player who’s done very well in Twenty20 cricket in England. His international experience and first-class experience is a great asset for us.

“Like with the rest of our squad, he’s a very good person who’ll fit in very well for our team ethos.”

The Scorchers currently sit at the summit of the BBL points table after having won three of the four games they have played thus far.
