Pakistan stand-in captain Azhar Ali was docked his entire match fee from the second Test against New Zealand in Hamilton as his side were found to be short of the over-rate.

Pakistan fell five overs shy of the targeted over-rate, which resulted in the rest of the team being fined 50 per cent of their match fees. According to the International Cricket Council (ICC) rules, players are fined 10 per cent per over the team is short, while the captain receives double the punishment.

The charge against Azhar and the Pakistan team were laid by the four officiating umpires and match referee Richie Richardson.

Azhar, who was replacing regular skipper Misbah-ul-Haq as he returned home following the death of his father-in-law, has accepted the charge, meaning that there will be no need for a formal hearing.

Pakistan fell short of the over-rate in the first Test in Hamilton as well and Misbah was subsequently banned for one Test match. He would have missed the second Test against New Zealand regardless of the ban due to the aforementioned tragedy concerning his father-in-law.

New Zealand whitewashed Pakistan 2-0 in the Test series as they won by eight wickets in the first Test in Christchurch and by 138 runs in Hamilton.
