Marcus Stoinis ripped through the Mumbai Indians’ batting line-up with four wickets to lead the Kings XI Punjab to a seven-wicket win.

Opting to bat first, the Indians were in deep trouble early on as Mohit Sharma, Sandeep Sharma and Axar Patel sliced through the top order.

Having got off to a stellar start, Punjab kept their foot on the pedal as Stonis bulldozed through the middle order before Sandeep Sharma and Mohit Sharma returned to clean up the tail.

With Kieron Pollard and Nitish Rana being the only two batsman to surpass the 20-run mark, the Indians were restricted to 124/9 off their 20 overs.

Stoinis was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, while Sandeep Sharma and Mohit Sharma snapped up two wickets apiece. Patel meanwhile chipped in with one.

Chasing 125 to win, Punjab got off to a disappointing start as opener Hashim Amla was trapped lbw off the bowling of Tim Southee for a duck.

Captain Murali Vijay and wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha steered Punjab’s innings back on track with a 116-run partnership before Saha was clean bowled by Mitchell McClenaghan for 56 off 40 balls, which included six boundaries and a six.
