“I can say, absolutely categorically, there were no deals done with Brendon McCullum”

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has denied speculation that they shielded New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum from being penalised after he delayed reporting an alleged match-fixing approach.

McCullum was allegedly approached by former team-mate Chris Cairns in 2008, but the 34-year-old only told the ICC’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) about it in 2011.

Ronnie Flanagan, chairman of the ACSU, insisted that McCullum’s “reputation is not sullied in my mind and I made that very clear to Brendon”.

Flanagan also made it clear that the ACSU did not make any deals with McCullum if he were to provide them with information about the fixing approach in 2008.

“I can say, absolutely categorically, there were no deals done with Brendon McCullum,” he said. “This is absolute nonsense … absolute, preposterous nonsense.”
