Sri Lanka sports minister Dayasiri Jayasekera is investigating whether the national team were involved in “scandalous behaviour” during their recently concluded tour of New Zealand.

Jayasekera claims that he was handed photos of players in the national team attending all-night parties prior to matches and also said that he had heard about players getting involved in verbal spats.

Sri Lanka were whitewashed 2-0 in the Test series and Twenty20 Internationals, while they lost the ODI series 3-1.

“There was scandalous behaviour,” Jayasekera told AFP. “They have not only attended drinking parties till three and four in the morning, but there was a lot of tension and friction among members.

“When they return, I want to call the team and along with Thilanga (Sumathipala, new Sri Lanka Cricket president) try to find out what happened.

“My main concern is the breakdown in discipline. When that is affected, the team naturally performs badly.”
