“I spoke to Inzamam and he has accepted a two-year contract with the Afghanistan team”

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has agreed to sign a two-year deal that will see him continue coaching Afghanistan until 2017, according to former Afghanistan coach Kabir Khan.

Ul-Haq took over as Afghanistan’s coach prior to their tour of Zimbabwe, during which they made history by becoming the first Associate nation to beat a Test-playing country in a bilateral ODI and Twenty20 series.

“I spoke to Inzamam and he has accepted a two-year contract with the Afghanistan team which will do them a lot of good,” Khan, who is now a national selector in Pakistan, told PTI. “Inzamam is satisfied with what he saw in Zimbabwe and believes that the Afghanistan team has good cricket talent and can move ahead.”

Khan is also confident that ul-Haq can transform Afghanistan into a superb batting side, given that he himself scored 8,830 Test runs at an average of 49.60 and 11,739 ODI runs at an average of 39.52.

“Inzamam is a cricket great and he can do a lot to improve their batting standards,” Kabir said. “And his calibre and stature is such he will remain above any petty politics which have hurt Afghanistan cricket.”
