Shastri (pictured above) allegedly told Naik “great wicket” in a sarcastic tone

Wankhede Stadium curator Sudhir Naik has lodged a complaint with the Mumbai Cricket Association after claiming that India team director Ravi Shastri and bowling coach B Arun both launched a verbal tirade against him.

According to Naik, Shastri and Arun blamed him for India’s 214-run loss to South Africa, which is their second-largest defeat in ODI history, in the fifth ODI on Sunday.

In his complaint letter, Naik claimed that the Indian team had not asked for a specific type of wicket to be prepared.

It is also understood that Shastri sarcastically told Naik “great wicket” and followed that up with an expletive, which triggered a verbal spat. However, Shastri denies using the expletive.

Board of Control for Cricket in Inda (BCCI) secretary Anurag Thakur insisted that action will be taken once the board has all the facts.

“We need to look at the details first, we can’t straightaway go to the action,” he said. “As for the BCCI taking action against anyone, whether it is a player or a member of the support staff, if you remember the incident in Australia and in the last six months we have made it very clear that the rules and regulations are equal for everyone. The same yardstick will follow in every case.”
