Sri Lanka have appointed Jerome Jayaratne as their interim head coach following the resignation of Marvan Atapattu.

Atapattu stepped down as head coach after Sri Lanka were beaten 2-1 by India in their recent three-Test series. However, this is just one of many disappointments Sri Lanka suffered during Atapattu’s tenure as head coach as the national team have yet to win a single series this year.

As a result, Sri Lanka will be hoping to turn their fortunes around during Jayaratne’s first assignment as interim head coach, which will come during the upcoming home series against the West Indies.

Jayaratne’s time with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) started when the board appointed him as their head of coaching in 2008. The 49-year-old, who holds coaching certificates from Cricket Australia and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), also enjoyed a stint as coach of the SLC academy squad.
