India opener Shikhar Dhawan scored 134 and captain Virat Kohli made 103 as the tourists continued to punish Sri Lanka on the second day of the first Test in Galle.

Starting out the day on 128/2, Dhawan and Kohli converted their 100-run partnership into a 227-run stand, during which Dhawan brought up his fourth Test century and Kohli his 11th, before Kohli was given out lbw off the bowling of Tharindu Kaushal.

Kohli’s magnificent knock of 103 came off 191 balls and included 11 boundaries.

Ajinkya Rahane fell soon after for a duck before Dhawan was clean bowled by Nuwan Pradeep for 134 off 271 deliveries, which included 13 boundaries.

Following Dhawan’s dismissal, India’s middle and lower order, with the exception of wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha, all failed to have an impact.

Thanks to Saha’s 60 off 120 balls, which included six boundaries and a six, India managed to make 375 before they were bowled out, which gave them a 192-run lead.
