The St Lucia Zouks escaped with a four-wicket win in a rain-affected showdown against the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel thanks to Ross Taylor’s last over heroics.

With the match having been cut down to nine overs per side due to heavy rain, Zouks captain Darren Sammy would have been delighted with his decision to bowl first as Red Steel opener Jacques Kallis was the only batsman to make a valuable contribution with 38 runs.

As a result, the Red Steel were restricted to 90/4 off their nine overs.

Delorn Johnson was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Fidel Edwards and Keron Cottoy chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Despite getting off to a horrible start in their chase of 91 runs, Zouks opener Johnson Charles stood his ground and scored 41 off 23 balls, which included three boundaries and three sixes, before he was clean bowled by Kallis.

Following Charles’ dismissal, the Zouks’ collapse continued until they were left needing 17 runs to win off the last over.

New Zealand all-rounder Nathan McCullum scored 10 runs off the first three balls before he was dismissed. However, his compatriot Ross Taylor smashed a huge six off the penultimate ball of the match to bring the scores level before he flicked the final ball of the match over square leg to win the game.

Taylor ended up finishing on eight off three balls, which included one six.

Kallis was the most successful bowler with three wickets, while Red Steel skipper Dwayne Bravo snapped up two and Kevon Cooper claimed one.

Charles was named Man of the Match.
