New Zealand batsman Jesse Ryder has been banned for one Plunket Shield game for abusing match officials during Otago’s match against Northern Districts in Hamilton last week.

As a result of his suspension, Ryder will miss Otago’s last fixture of the first-class season, which comes against Auckland next week.

Ryder had already made himself unavailable for Otago’s Plunket Shield match against Canterbury this week since he is promoting and will be competing in a celebrity boxing match on Saturday.

“That’s my season done,” Ryder told journalists at a boxing promotion event on Wednesday. “I look back and my passion, frustration and want to win got the better of me.

“I know it was the wrong thing to do, but at the time the game was in the balance and the form I was in I could have won us the game.”
