Perth Scorchers opener Michael Klinger hammered a sensational century to quash the Melbourne Renegades by 35 runs at the WACA.

Klinger was well supported by his opening partner Marcus Harris, who made 53.

However, Renegades all-rounder Andre Russell deserves some credit for his valiant knock of 43.

Scorchers captain Adam Voges would have been delighted with his decision to bat first after Harris and Klinger amassed a 103-run partnership, during which Harris brought up his half-century, before he was caught by Renegades skipper Aaron Finch at cover off the bowling of debutant Matthew Short.

Harris’ career-best knock of 53 came off 39 balls and included five boundaries and a six.

England batsman Michael Carberry made 17 runs before he was caught by Finch at long-on off the bowling of Dwayne Bravo.

Ashton Agar mustered six runs before he was caught by Bravo at short cover off the bowling of Andrew Fekete.

Thanks to Klinger’s unbeaten knock of 105, which came off 60 balls and included seven boundaries and four sixes, the Scorchers finished on 192/3 off their 20 overs.

Short, Bravo and Fekete picked up one wicket apiece.

Chasing 193 to win, the Renegades got off to a poor start as opening batsman Matthew Wade was caught by Harris at square leg off the bowling of Jason Behrendorff for 14.

Finch fared no better as he was clean bowled by Agar for 15.

Tom Cooper only made nine runs before he was cleaned up by Andrew Tye.

Bravo scored 13 runs before he was caught by Behrendorff at long-off off the bowling of Agar.

Callum Ferguson managed to make 39 runs before he was caught by Voges at extra cover off the bowling of debutant Matt Dixon.

Ben Rohrer failed to have an impact with the bat as he was caught behind off the bowling of Behrendorff for nine runs.

Short accumulated two runs before he was caught by Klinger at midwicket off the bowling of Tye.

Feteke failed to trouble the scorers as he was run out by Ashton Tuner for a golden duck.

Despite a valiant 43 from Russell, the Renegades ended up falling 35 runs short of their target.
