South Africa all-rounder Jean Paul (JP) Duminy has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against Australia after aggravating his knee injury.

Duminy, who initially suffered the injury during the tri-series against Australia and Zimbabwe in August-September, recently led the South Africa for the first time in their three-match Twenty20 series against the Baggy Greens, which the Proteas lost 2-1.

As a result, Duminy will be replaced by batsman Farhaan Behardien.

It has also been announced that the national selectors have included pace bowler Marchant de Lange in the ODI squad as well.

“JP aggravated his long-standing knee injury during the current T20 series against Australia,” South Africa team manager Mohammed Moosajee said. “This is the same injury that plagued him during the tri-series in Zimbabwe and caused him to miss the Champions League T20.

“The recommendation from the medical committee is that he returns back to South Africa for a six-week period of rest and rehabilitation, particularly ahead of a busy season at home and the ICC World Cup in three months.”
