“Thankfully he’s just got back from the hospital and there’s no major damage”

New South Wales batsman Ben Rohrer is set to make a quick return after he was hit on the side of the head by a bouncer from Victoria pace bowler Chris Tremain.

The incident occurred on the last day of New South Wales’ Sheffield Shield match against Victoria at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Rohrer suffered the injury after he tried to duck underneath the bouncer, but it kept low and ended up striking him on the side of the head.

After being hit, Rohrer stumbled for a few steps and then collapsed to the ground as the rest of the players immediately called for the assistance of on-duty doctor Trefor James.

Just a few minutes later, Rohrer groggily got back on his feet before being whisked off the ground on the back of a motorised stretcher.

He was rushed to hospital right away to undergo scans, which revealed no major damage to his skull or brain.

“I was very worried,” New South Wales captain Peter Nevill said. “It looked very nasty. It got him flush. Straight away he was struggling.

“Thankfully he’s just got back from the hospital and there’s no major damage. He’ll probably have a sore head tomorrow, but hopefully there’s nothing to stop him playing the next Shield game.”
