Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal and all-rounder Mahmudullah both scored half-centuries to give their side a slight advantage over Zimbabwe on the first day of the second Test in Khulna.

Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim would have been brooding over his decision to bat first after opening batsman Shamsur Rahman was given out lbw off the bowling of Elton Chigumbura for two runs.

Rahman was not given out initially, but Zimbabwe decided to review the decision. Replays showed that the ball was pitching in line and going on to hit leg stump, which led to the third umpire overturning the original decision.

Iqbal and Mominul Haque made up for the early loss of Rahman with a 72-run partnership before Haque was brilliantly caught and bowled by Tinashe Panyangara for 35.

Iqbal and Mahmudullah kept the runs flowing with a 95-run partnership, during which both batsmen brought up their half-centuries, before Mahmudullah was given out lbw off the bowling of Panyangara.

Mahmudullah’s excellent knock of 56 came off 152 balls and included five boundaries.

Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan amassed an unbeaten 20-run partnership before stumps was called.

Iqbal finished on 74 off 250 balls, which included six boundaries, while Al Hasan remained undefeated on 13 off 21 deliveries, which included two boundaries.

Panyangara was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Chigumbura chipped in with one.

Bangladesh ended day one on 193/3 and will continue batting tomorrow at 09:30 local time or 03:30 GMT.
