Phil Whitticase has resigned as Leicestershire’s director of cricket following a disastrous season where the club failed to win a single County Championship match.

As a result of their horrendous season, many of Leicestershire’s top players, including Josh Cobb, Shiv Thakor, Greg Smith and Nathan Buck, have decided to leave and sign elsewhere.

“Following the cricket review, the position of director of cricket is being outstructured, but Phil Whitticase has not left the club,” a statement by the club said. “The club is currently involved in discussions with Phil about the future.”

It has also been revealed that Australian batsman Mark Cosgrove has been asked to take over as Leicestershire’s captain, while his compatriot, Andrew McDonald, may be offered a coaching role.

Meanwhile it is also understood that Wasim Khan, who is the chief executive of Chance to Shine, is likely to replace Mike Siddall as Leicestershire’s chief executive after the latter resigned as well.
