Numerous USA players refused to travel to Uganda after news broke that a terrorist plot had been foiled in Kampala

The International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cricket League Division 3 tournament has been moved from Uganda to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, due to security concerns.

In a statement, the ICC said that they decided to shift the tournament to Malaysia after consulting with “a range of local authorities and security experts”.

“The safety and security of players and officials is of paramount importance to the ICC, and despite the excellent cooperation received from the Ugandan government and the Uganda Cricket Association, due to recent events beyond the control of the ICC and the Uganda Cricket Association, we were ultimately uncertain if a secure environment could still be provided,” ICC chief executive David Richardson added. “Thankfully, the Malaysian Cricket Association has offered to host the tournament at short notice, and, based on previous experience, we anticipate a successful event in Kuala Lumpur.”

The six teams participating in this tournament are Bermuda, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, Uganda and the USA.

Earlier this month, numerous USA players and Bermuda’s Lionel Cann stated that they would be pulling out of the tournament after hearing that a terrorist plot had been foiled in Uganda’s capital city of Kampala on September 13.
