The Mumbai Indians have been dealt a huge blow prior to the start of the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) after it was confirmed that captain Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the tournament.

Sharma is currently nursing two injuries, which include a shoulder problem and a fractured finger.

With Sharma out of action, Mumbai are likely to make Lasith Malinga, Kieron Pollard or Harbhajan Singh captain for the CLT20.

It is understood that Sharma recently visited the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, where the physiotherapists ruled him out for at least four weeks.

Sharma will now undergo a rehabilitation programme, but it is still unclear whether he will be fully fit prior to the start of India’s ODI series against the West Indies on October 8 in Kochi.
