“Since joining Nottinghamshire three years ago my career has progressed significantly”

England left-arm pace bowler Harry Gurney has been rewarded with a new three-year contract by Nottinghamshire following his superb performance in the ongoing County season.
Gurney has taken 35 wickets at an average of 27.25 in eight County Championship matches. In addition to that, he also picked up nine wickets at an average of 36.11 in the Royal London One-Day Cup and 12 wickets at an average of 22.66 in the Natwest T20 Blast.
Due to his impressive performance in County cricket, Gurney made his ODI debut against Scotland in May this year and has gone on to represent England in five more ODIs after that. He has also played in one Twenty20 International, which came against Sri Lanka in May.
Gurney has been impressive at the international level, taking nine ODI wickets at an average of 24.77 and two Twenty20 International wickets in his only match at a brilliant average of 13.
The 27-year-old attributed his success in County and international cricket to his decision to move to Nottinghamshire three years ago.
“Since joining Nottinghamshire three years ago my career has progressed significantly and I owe Mick Newell and Wayne Noon a huge debt of gratitude,” he said. “I’m delighted to commit to such a special club for another three years and excited about winning some more trophies for our loyal fans.”
Nottinghamshire’s director of cricket, Mick Newell, who is also an England selector, stated that he was pleased that Gurney had committed to a long-term contract with the club and is confident that he will continue to grow and prosper.
Newell also hinted that Gurney will soon become one of Nottinghamshire’s spearhead pace bowlers, given the success he has had this season and with England as well.
“Harry has taken massive strides forwards during his time with us and we’re very pleased to have tied him down for the peak years of his career,” Newell said. “It’s very important to have players in the squad who can play regularly in all formats and I see Harry in a group of players that can form our senior bowling group in the years ahead.”
Gurney has been included in England’s squad for the upcoming ODI series against India, which gets underway on August 25 in Bristol.
