“Orders have been passed for the release of his money”

Former Pakistan captain Saleem Malik has will receive all his overdue funds from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after a lower court found him innocent of being involved in match-fixing.

“Orders have been passed for the release of his money as he had filed an application with us for the same,” PCB chief operating officer Subhan Ahmed told PTI. “Yes Malik has sent us the decision of the court and we have sought guidance from the International Cricket Council on the issue. But the managing committee felt that since the court had passed an order, Malik’s money should not be held up by the board any longer.”

Malik became the first player to be banned from all forms of cricket after he was found guilty of match-fixing in Justice Qayyum’s report in 2000.

Malik appealed against his ban in 2001, but it was unsuccessful as it was rejected by the Lahore High Court. However, another court lifted the ban seven years later.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) stated that this was a PCB matter and added that they wouldn’t be getting involved.

“Saleem Malik has been banned by the PCB and not by the ICC,” an ICC spokesman told ESPNcricinfo. “As such, this remains a domestic matter for the PCB.”
