Former Australia batsman Phil Jaques has been appointed as New South Wales’ assistant coach.

Jaques will work closely with head coach Trevor Bayliss and also with the state’s youth teams.

Jaques, who stopped playing for New South Wales at the end of the 2011-12 season, will also be a specialist coach for the Cricket New South Wales Academy programmes.

“Phil Jaques has enjoyed a very long and successful first-class career,” Cricket New South Wales’ general manager, David Moore, said. “He has accumulated a lot of knowledge over this time which he can now pass on to players training in Cricket NSW Academy Programs all over the State. As a cricketer he was known for his professionalism and attention to detail, and he will set a fine example for the next generation of NSW players.”
