The Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel’s batting duo of Ross Taylor and Darren Bravo both smashed glorious half-centuries to lead the franchise to a comfortable seven-wicket win over the Barbados Tridents in Grenada.

Trinidad and Tobago captain Dwayne Bravo would have been pleased with his decision to bowl first after Barbados opener Dwayne Smith was caught by Darren Bravo off the bowling of Samuel Badree for 13.

Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik managed to make 21 runs before he was caught by Taylor off the bowling of Kevin O’Brien.

Neil McKenzie only made seven runs before he was caught by Dwayne Bravo at backward square leg off the bowling of O’Brien.

Wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich was the top-scorer for Barbados with 37 runs before he was clean bowled by Kevon Cooper.

Barbados captain Kieron Pollard failed to save his team as he was caught and bowled by Dwayne Bravo for just seven runs.

Bravo struck again just three balls later when Jonathan Carter was caught by Fidel Edwards for five runs.

Barbados eventually finished on 124/6 off their 20 overs.

Bravo and O’Brien picked up two wickets apiece, while Cooper and Badree chipped in with one wicket each.

Chasing 125 to win, Trinidad and Tobago got off to the worst possible start as opening batsman Nasir Jamshed was caught by Ashley Nurse at slip off the first ball of the innings, which was bowled by Malik.

Evin Lewis only made four runs before he was caught by McKenzie at midwicket off the bowling of Ravi Rampaul.

Darren Bravo and Taylor stabilised the innings with a 95-run partnership, during which Taylor brought up his half-century, before he was given out lbw off the bowling of Rampaul.

Taylor’s fantastic knock of 62 came off 51 balls and included six boundaries and a six.

Bravo finished unbeaten on 54 off 42 deliveries, which included three boundaries and three sixes, as Trinidad and Tobago reached their target with 15 balls to spare.

Rampaul was the most successful bowler with two wickets, while Malik claimed one.

Taylor was named Man of the Match for his magnificent innings.
