Santokie is over the moon after taking a wicket, while Sammy jumps for joy after hitting the winning runs

West Indies left-arm pace bowler Krishmar Santokie ripped through England’s batting line-up with four wickets and captain Darren Sammy hammered 30 runs off just nine balls to lead their side to a five-wicket win over England in the second Twenty20 International in Barbados.

Thanks to Santokie and Sammy, the West Indies also took an unassailable 2-0 lead heading into the third and final Twenty20 International.

England stand-in captain Eoin Morgan would have been regretting his decision to bat first after opening batsman Michael Lumb was given out lbw off the bowling of Krishmar Santokie for four runs.

Debutant Moeen Ali only made five runs before he was also given out lbw off the bowling of Santokie.

Morgan failed to have an impact either as he was caught by Lendl Simmons at square leg off the bowling of Samuel Badree for just three runs.

Alex Hales and wicketkeeper Jos Buttler stabilised the innings with a 76-run partnership before Hales was also caught by Simmons, but only off the bowling of Dwayne Bravo.

Hales’ solid knock of 40 came of 36 balls and included one boundary and two sixes.

However, before the West Indies could continue making inroads, the heavens parted midway through the 15th over and the players were ushered off the field.

After a short delay, Buttler went on to make 67 off 43 deliveries, which included five boundaries and three sixes, before he was caught by West Indies captain Darren Sammy at backward point off the bowling of Santokie.

Ravi Bopara made 14 runs before he was caught by Bravo at long-off to become Santokie’s fourth victim of the match.

Tim Bresnan only scored seven runs before he was caught behind off the bowling of Bravo.

Thanks to Buttler, England finished on 152/7 off their 20 overs.

Santokie was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, while Bravo snapped up two and Badree chipped in with one.

Chasing 153 to win, the West Indies got off to a solid start as their opening pair of Dwayne Smith and Chris Gayle amassed a 48-run partnership before Smith was caught by Bresnan in the cover region off the bowling of Jade Dernbach for 30.

Gayle ended up making 36 runs before he was clean bowled by Bopara.

Simmons made 19 runs before he was caught behind off the bowling of Luke Wright. Marlon Samuels scored 28 runs before he was caught by Hales at long-on off the bowling of Bresnan.

Bresnan struck again the very next ball as Andre Russell was caught by Hales at mid-on for just two runs.

Sammy took over from that point on as he walloped 30 runs off nine balls, which included two boundaries and three sixes, to lead the West Indies to a five-wicket win with just seven deliveries to spare.

Bresnan was the most successful bowler with two wickets, while Dernbach, Bopara and Wright picked up one wicket apiece.

Morgan was disappointed with his team’s performance, and said: “[I] Think [we were] about 15-20 short. Starting at 30 for 3 wasn’t ideal and we had to work on a balance between trying to score runs and not lose wickets.

“I thought [Buttler and Hales] kept us in the game with a great effort, they showed a lot of fight and towards the end we were always in the game but we had to continue to take wickets.

“A win [in the third T20] would be good, building an upwards curve for the T20 World Cup.”

Sammy was ecstatic to have won the series, and said: “Feels good, it’s a while since we won a series. This is preparation for the T20 World Cup, we have one more game and we want to give the fans something to celebrate.

“[Santokie] took his opportunity, so it’s good that all the guys are firing. More or less we focus on the first six and then the back end, we have Dwayne and Andre Russell, myself, so we can come and finish off.

“We have a few niggles, we want to win cricket games, so we’ll come up with the right eleven.”

Santokie was named Man of the Match, and said: “By watching the first game on the sidelines I saw the pitch was a bit up and down. What’s worked for me over the years [in T20] is I’m confident to do it and it went well today.”
