Abbott took seven wickets in the first innings of his Test debut

South Africa pace bowler Kyle Abbott has been included in the squad for the third Test, which gets underway on March 1 in Cape Town, as a replacement for left-arm seamer Wayne Parnell.

Parnell injured his groin on the third day of the second Test in Port Elizabeth.

Abbott has only represented South Africa in one Test match, which came in February 2013, and ripped through Pakistan’s batting line-up with incredible figures of 7/29 in the first innings.

Abott has been absolutely unstoppable in South Africa’s first-class competition as well as he took 12 wickets in last weekend’s match against the Cobras.

He is the leading wicket-taker in South Africa’s first-class season thus far.

It was also announced that all-rounder Ryan McLaren, who was forced to miss the second Test due to a mild concussion, has been drafted into the squad.

South Africa squad for the third Test: Graeme Smith, Alviro Petersen, Hashim Amla, Faf du Plessis, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Vernon Philander, Robin Peterson, Dean Elgar, Rory Kleinveldt, Morne Morkel , Dale Steyn, Thami Tsolekile, Ryan McLaren, Quinton de Kock, Kyle Abbott
