“I want to see Davey (Warner) get another hundred out there obviously, then get out there and have a real good crack”

Following his seven-wicket haul during the third day of the second Test in Adelaide, Australia left-arm pace bowler Mitchell Johnson has revealed that the baggy greens plan to “cook” England a little while longer tomorrow.

Johnson ripped through England’s batting line-up and twice found himself on a hat-trick as the tourists went from being 111/4 to 172 all out.

Johnson’s outstanding bowling figures were well supported by opening batsman David Warner, who smashed an unbeaten 83 off 117 balls, which included nine boundaries and a six, to give Australia a massive 530-run lead heading into day four.

“We are going to cook them a bit more, keep them out in the field a bit longer,” Johnson told Sky Sports. “It’s not how many runs we’ve got, it’s all about overs we’ve got at them.

“I’m sure we will see 40 minutes in the morning. I want to see Davey (Warner) get another hundred out there obviously, then get out there and have a real good crack.

“You could see the amount of spin the two spinners were getting out there today and that variable bounce has definitely come in and they got the ball to reverse really early, so it’s good signs for us.”

Johnson combined his lethal pace and bounce to get rid of England captain Alastair Cook, Ben Stokes, Matt Prior, Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann, James Anderson and Monty Panesar.

“You try and push them back, but also on a wicket like this where it is a bit variable, a bit up and down, you’re going to get guys on the body,” Johnson said. “I’m definitely trying to set them up – to push them back and then get that nick afterwards.

“At the Adelaide Oval you’re trying to hit the stumps. Reverse swing comes into it, trying to hit the off stump to middle stump, then using that short ball to set them on the back foot.”

Johnson added that the moustache he grew in support of the ‘Movember’ campaign would continue to stick around for a little while longer.

“The mo is staying for the Ashes series,” he said. “I had a few people today in the crowd calling for me to keep it forever but not sure my wife will be happy with that.”
