Ajmal pleaded guilty to the charges against him
Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal has been officially reprimanded for his celebrations following the dismissal of South Africa pace bowler Morne Morkel on the third day of the second Test in Dubai.
The umpires reprimanded Ajmal since they believed his celebrations were insulting.
The incident occurred in the 162nd over of South Africa’s innings when Ajmal appealed for a catch against Morkel, however, it was given not out by on-field umpire Ian Gould.
Ajmal dismissed Morkel the very next delivery, but celebrated by continuing to appeal in an animated fashion.
The 36-year-old was charged with breaching Article 2.1.4 of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Code of Conduct which relates to “using language or a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting during an International Match”.
It is understood that Ajmal has pleaded guilty to the charge and will accept the punishment imposed upon him by match referee David Boon.
Since Ajmal pleaded guilty, there will be no need for a hearing to take place.
