“I just backed myself and played my strokes and it’s good to see the boys, all of us, gelling together and playing so well.”

Australia opening batsman David Warner has admitted to having a “tough trot” in the past couple of months, but the flamboyant big-hitter added that he was “happy to score runs for NSW [New South Wales]” after smashing back-to-back centuries for them in the ongoing Ryobi Cup.

Warner smashed 139 off 126 balls, which included 13 boundaries and six maximums, in a losing effort against Queensland and followed that up by hammering 138 off 111 deliveries, which included 16 boundaries and five sixes, in a seven-wicket win over Victoria.

“I’ve had a tough trot but I’m just happy to score runs for NSW, I’m enjoying playing cricket,” Warner said.

Warner has been involved in numerous controversies as of late, starting with a verbal rampage against two News Limited journalists on Twitter.

He was then suspended by Cricket Australia for punching England batsman Joe Root at the Walkabout bar in Birmingham during the Champions Trophy in June.

His most recent controversy came just two weeks ago when he was slapped with a one-match suspension by New South Wales for missing Randwick Petersham’s grade match against Northern Districts to have a private training session and spend an afternoon at Sydney’s Randwick Racecourse.

However, Warner revealed that he had made some major changes in his lifestyle in an attempt to get his career back on track.

“I’m in bed mate, 8.30 at night,” he said. “It’s good to see the Australian boys winning but I’m here at the moment to score runs for NSW and I’m doing the job.

“From the get-go, I’ve been feeling good. I’ve been playing very well in the nets but you can’t get them in the nets – you’ve got to come out and perform.

“I just backed myself and played my strokes and it’s good to see the boys, all of us, gelling together and playing so well.”

Warner will represent New South Wales in their next Ryobi Cup match, which is against South Australia on October 22 at the Drummoyne Oval.
