Guptill could make his international comeback in November

New Zealand opening batsman Martin Guptill has been ruled out of the Bangladesh tour next month due to an ankle injury, which will require surgery, according to the national team physiotherapist Paul Close.

Guptill will go under the knife next month after carrying the injury for more than a year, but it is possible that he could make a comeback when New Zealand tour Sri Lanka in November.

Guptill also fractured a bone in his little finger on his right hand while representing the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and was subsequently forced to miss the knockout stages of the tournament.

Upon arriving back home, Guptill went to see a number of specialists, who all advised him that surgery would not be necessary, but instead, it needed to be immobilised in a splint.

According to New Zealand Cricket (NZC), Guptill’s finger injury will take between three and five weeks to heal.

New Zealand’s tour of Bangladesh will consist of two Test matches, three ODIs and a one-off Twenty20 International.
