Katich is impressed at how quickly Marsh has managed to turn his career around
Former Australia batsman Simon Katich has announced that he is extremely impressed with Shaun Marsh’s attitude and dedication to regaining his spot on the national roster after having a turbulent year with many ups and downs.
Besides discipline problems, Marsh has also been dealing with a hamstring and thumb injury, but Katich believes his performance in the Big Bash League (BBL) and the Twenty20 Internationals he played in against Sri Lanka, along with the ODIs against the West Indies show that he is ready to represent Australia in all three formats once again.
Marsh last played Test cricket for Australia early last year against India and since being dropped, he has veered off the tracks, so much so that it even led to him being ousted from the Western Australia team after having a few too many drinks one night in South Africa during the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20).
Katich believes that Marsh’s recent performances cannot continue to be ignored by the national selectors, especially since they are still searching for permanent a replacement to fill the spots left behind by veteran batting duo Ricky Ponting and Michael Hussey, both of whom recently announced their retirement from international cricket.
What stood out for Katich even more was the fact that Marsh played through the little niggles he has been dealing with, which shows just how committed he is to regaining his place.
Katich stated that Marsh’s cricket ethics were outstanding and it still amazes him how he has managed to turn his career around from nothing, almost a year ago, to everything as of today.
