A BATTING WITH BIMAL BREAKING REPORT: Glenn McGrath inducted into ICC Hall of Fame

McGrath was extremely grateful to have been chosen to join the ranks of many other legends

Australia pace bowling great Glenn McGrath has become the newest inductee into the International Cricket Council (ICC) Hall of Fame.

McGrath is the 68th male cricketer to be inducted, with West Indies legendary batsman Brian Lara being the last inductee in September 2012.

Former England women’s all-rounder Enid Bakewell was also inducted at the same time as Lara and the ICC have announced that there will be one more cricketer welcomed into the Hall of Fame later this year.

“I am honoured that the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame voting academy, which includes all the current living Hall of Famers, have nominated and voted me to be inducted,” McGrath said. “I am very much looking forward to celebrating the occasion at the SCG, which is of course is like a second home to me.”

McGrath represented Australia in 124 Test matches and claimed 563 wickets at an average of 21.64, which puts him at second on the country’s list of wicket-takers, with only leg-spinner Shane Warne ahead of him.

McGrath is also fourth on the all-time list of wicket-takers, but has the largest tally of wickets amongst all other fast bowlers though.

The former Australia seamer also picked up 380 ODI wickets, including one for the ICC World XI, in 249 matches, which puts him at the top of the list, along with his long-time bowling partner Brett Lee.

During his illustrious career, McGrath helped Australia record a hat-trick of wins in the ICC World Cup, with his maiden win coming in 1999, then in 2003 and finally once more in 2007.
