Kallis believes the top order batsmen have the potential to carry on making big scores in the last two Test matches

Fresh off scoring a brilliant 147 against Australia in the first Test at Brisbane, veteran South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis is confident that the Proteas’ top order batsmen will continue their dominant run against the Baggy Greens during the last two Test matches of the series.

South Africa captain Graeme Smith was not at his best during the first Test, but his opening partner Alviro Petersen scored 64 in the first innings, which was followed up by an outstanding 104 by in-form batsman Hashim Amla.

During the 2-0 routing of England over the summer, Smith, Petersen, Amla and Kallis all scored centuries which led to South Africa being crowned as the new number one Test team in international cricket.

Amla even became the first South African batsman to score a triple century after pummelling England for 311 runs in the first Test at The Oval.

“As a batting unit we have been firing well. It comes down to the guys wanting it, wanting to perform and batting as a group, I know the guys are hungry to do well here. We set ourselves high standards in the UK and hopefully we can continue with those high standards that we set for ourselves,” Kallis said.

South Africa will be looking to replicate their 2008-2009 series against Australia, where they beat the Baggy Greens in front of their own home crowd for the first time in history.
