A BATTING WITH BIMAL BREAKING REPORT: Matthew Wade reveals international workload is not a problem for him

Wade is ready to take on the challenges that arise during the South Africa series

After being named as the wicketkeeper for the first Test against South Africa ahead of veteran Brad Haddin, Matthew Wade has revealed that the workload of being the national team’s keeper for all three formats is not too much for him to handle.

Wade will now be looking to secure his spot as keeper for the entire Test series against South Africa and when Sri Lanka tour in December.

Following the three Tests against the Sri Lankans, the Australians will have to play five ODIs and two Twenty20s against them as well.

Directly after the series against Sri Lanka, Australia will play a limited overs series at home again, but only this time it will be against the West Indies.

After that, Australia will fly off to India for a four-Test series before being involved in a back-to-back Ashes series against arch-rivals England.

If Wade is to be involved in every one of those matches, he will have to ensure that he keeps fit after already representing Australia  in 41 matches since the start of February.

“I’d love to hold all three caps, that’s what everyone dreams of, is representing Australia in all three forms. I’d like to keep in every single game that I can. Like the fast bowlers, if there comes a point where the selectors have to rest me, we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. It’s been proven over the last ten years that keepers can play every single game, so it can definitely happen,” Wade said.

Wade is set to become only the fifth Australian wicketkeeper, after Greg Dyer, Ian Healy, Adam Gilchrist and Haddin, to play a Test match on home soil in the past 24 years.

However, as of right now, Wade is preparing for the challenges that will await him in Brisbane.

Wade must ensure that he is able to score runs against the South African pace attack, which includes the likes of Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel and Vernon Philander, while also doing an excellent job with the gloves since the number one Test team ranking is up for grabs.

“It’s going to be a difficult one, they’ve got a great fast-bowling attack and a pretty good top six or seven. Every Test team is going to be hard work but South Africa are the No.1 Test team in the world and that’s where we want to be. Pup talks about it all the team, we want to be the No.1 team in the world again. There’s no greater test than this summer,” Wade added.
