A BATTING WITH BIMAL BREAKING REPORT: Usain Bolt still has desire to play in Australia’s Big Bash League

Bolt is hoping he will get the opportunity to represent the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League

Jamaican sprinting sensation Usain Bolt has continued to express his desire to play in Australia’s Big Bash League, and the Melbourne Stars, who have had some interest in signing the sprinter for a while now, are still keeping the door open to discuss a potential contract with him.

The whole situation came about after Bolt was interviewed by TV presenter Eddie McGuire, who also happens to be the Stars president.

Bolt was then contacted by former Australian leg-spin legend Shane Warne, who is the team’s star player, and asked whether he was serious about playing in the Twenty20 tournament.

Fresh off the London Olympics, where he won three gold medals, Bolt said: “He [Shane Warne] contacted me and asked me about if I am serious and if I really want to do it then he can put in a few words that should get it done, so we will see if I get the time off. I will try. Twenty20, I love it. Just the fact that it is so exciting, it’s about going hard the whole time, not just about playing shots. It’s about being aggressive and I like that style of batsman. If I get the chance I will definitely try because I know it’s going to be a lot of fun. I don’t know how good I am. I will probably have to get a lot of practice in.”

However, even though Bolt played cricket as a child, and clean bowled West Indian batsman Chris Gayle in a charity match at Jamaica in 2009, there is still a major concern about how he will fare against the likes of Brett Lee and other pace bowlers.

The stakes of the tournament have never been higher, as the eight Big Bash League teams will not only be competing for the trophy and prize money of $2.5 million, but also for two spots in the Champions League Twenty20.

But, before anything can become final, Cricket Australia noted that Bolt must be able to play at a decent level in order to take part in the tournament.
