Hayat was named Man of the Match for his quickfire innings of 26 not out

Hong Kong’s annihilated Scotland by nine wickets in the first Twenty20 International at Mission Road which was curtailed due to a wet outfield.

The match was originally scheduled to start at 1pm, but due to the wet outfield, play only began three hours later, which led to the match being cut down to 10 overs per side.

Hong Kong captain Tanwir Afzal would have been ecstatic with his decision to bowl first as only three Scotland batsmen – George Munsey, Matt Machan and Calum MacLeod – were able to reach double figures. Munsey was Scotland’s top-scorer with 17, while Machan and MacLeod scored 10 and 16 respectively.

With the other batsmen failing to have an impact, Scotland were restricted to 66/7 off their 10 overs.

Afzal, Haseeb Amjad, Aizaz Khan and Nadeem Ahmed picked up one wicket apiece.

Chasing 67 to win, Hong Kong got off to a blistering start before losing wicketkeeper Jamie Atkinson for a quickfire 20.

However, Atkinson’s wicket was to be Scotland’s last taste of success for the remainder of the match as Babar Hayat and Anshuman Rath powered Hong Kong to victory with 22 balls to spare.

Hayat finished on 26 off 14 balls, which included two boundaries and two sixes, while Rath remained undefeated on 20 off 17 deliveries, which included two boundaries.

Safyaan Sharif was the only bowler to take a wicket.

Hayat was named Man of the Match.
