Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja has heaped praise on Babar Azam, comparing his elegant batting style to that of New Zealand superstar Kane Williamson.
Azam has shown encouraging signs of returning to top form in recent months. During Pakistan’s home series against South Africa, he impressed with scores of 50 in the Test matches and 68 in the T20Is.
The 31-year-old then registered an unbeaten 102 in the ODI series against Sri Lanka – his first international century in more than two years – before scoring a fluent 74 against Zimbabwe in a T20I tri-series that also included Sri Lanka.
“Babar Azam plays just like Kane Williamson,” Ramiz was quoted as saying by journalist Farid Khan on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Azam missed Pakistan’s recent three-match T20I tour of Sri Lanka as he is currently representing the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League (BBL).
So far, the Lahore native has made 202 runs in 10 matches, which includes two fifties, at an average of 25.25 and a strike-rate of 104.12.
Next up for the Pakistan team will be a three-match T20I series against Australia, which will be held in Lahore from January 29 to February 1.
