Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi admitted it is frustrating that a batsman as talented as Mohammad Haris hasn’t produced “any noteworthy performances”.
Afridi noted that Haris is “getting opportunities everywhere” and playing in multiple T20 leagues, but is simply not living up to expectations.
The 45-year-old has even gone as far as calling Haris on a couple of occasions and advising him that his career will only take off if he consistently posts big scores.
“He’s getting opportunities everywhere, playing in every league, but his shot selection remains the same. It frustrates me. I’ve personally called him 2-3 times and told him that only performances will take him forward, but I haven’t seen any noteworthy performances from him,” Afridi was quoted as saying by TOK Sports on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Haris last played for Pakistan during the 2025 Asia Cup, where he scored 131 runs in seven matches, which included a top score of 66, at an average of 21.83 and a strike-rate of 133.67.
The 24-year-old subsequently missed the home series against South Africa, the three ODIs against Sri Lanka, and the T20I tri-series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
In that time, he took part in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (QeA Trophy), which is Pakistan’s first-class competition.
Haris played for Peshawar Region in the tournament and accumulated 534 runs in nine matches, which included a century and four fifties, at an average of 38.14.
